Dispersing cupolas of cannon-smoke
Wreathed, like the wild parabolas of the sword
In this sea light, our islands’ architecture.
The howling mouths, the startled hair,
Stunned when the iron thunder spoke
Were never petrified in praise
Of felons, cannibals and castaways.
